Checkered Pumpkin with Leaves is a downloadable digital machine embroidery design, not a finished embroidered item. It features a dimensional black-and-white checkered pumpkin with a curled green stem, surrounded by green, golden-ochre and burgundy fall leaves. The bold geometric checks are softened by the natural leaf shapes, creating an elegant autumn design without a frightening Halloween look.

After purchase, you receive an archive containing machine embroidery files in the formats listed above. No finished embroidery, fabric, thread or stabilizer will be shipped. An embroidery machine and a method of transferring the design to your machine are required.
File 128.4x116.4 mm (5.06x4.58"): minimum 130x180 mm (5x7 in) hoop.
File 138.4x125.4 mm (5.45x4.94"): minimum 130x180 mm (5x7 in) hoop. Rotate the file so that its 125.4 mm (4.94") side runs across the narrower direction of the embroidery field.
File 148.4x134.5 mm (5.84x5.30"): minimum 140x200 mm (5.5x7.9 in) hoop. This file will not fit a 130x180 mm (5x7 in) field even after rotation because its shorter side is 134.5 mm (5.30").
Important: compare the file dimensions with your machine's actual embroidery field, not only with the nominal hoop name.
The design uses 10 thread colors and 11 color changes. The swatches are approximate; use the Madeira number and your physical thread chart for final color selection.

This is a large design with dense filled areas and up to 50,600 stitches. For cotton, linen, twill and home-decor fabric, use a medium- to heavy-weight cut-away stabilizer, approximately 60–80 gsm. Suitable examples include Madeira Weblon Cut Away, Gunold Cut Away and Sulky Cut-Away Plus. For lightweight or less stable fabric, use two layers with their grain directions crossed.
On terry cloth, add a water-soluble topping such as Madeira Avalon Film, Gunold Solvy Film or Sulky Solvy. The topping keeps small stitches above the loops, but it does not replace the cut-away stabilizer underneath.
A good starting point is quality 40 wt machine embroidery thread with a 75/11 or 80/12 embroidery needle. Make the final needle choice according to the fabric weight, stabilizer thickness and thread type.
For a calm black-and-white fall palette, keep the pumpkin monochrome and stitch the leaves in two related olive and gold shades. For a warmer version, replace burgundy with terracotta. Keep a clear value difference between the light and dark checks because that contrast is what preserves the checkerboard effect.

For stable woven fabric, start with 60–80 gsm cut-away stabilizer such as Madeira Weblon Cut Away, Gunold Cut Away or Sulky Cut-Away Plus. Use two crossed layers when the fabric is lightweight or easily distorted.
Yes. Use cut-away stabilizer underneath and add Madeira Avalon Film, Gunold Solvy Film or Sulky Solvy on top. The film controls the loops but does not replace the backing.
Hoop the fabric on the grain without stretching it, support it with crossed stabilizer layers and use a basting box. Test the complete design first because even a small fabric shift is visible in a geometric pattern.
At 600–700 stitches per minute, the calculated stitching time is approximately 60–70 minutes for 42,000 stitches, 66–77 minutes for 46,300 stitches and 72–84 minutes for 50,600 stitches. Add time for thread changes, trims and machine movement.

Stitched out beautifully. Your source for digital designs is so important. Nothing is worse than putting in the time and effort to find you’ve also ruined your canvas with a poorly digitized design. I find Royal Present designs to be consistently excellent, where other sites are hit and miss.
