Russian Folk Strawberry Khokhloma Machine Embroidery Design is a downloadable digital embroidery file featuring a round ornamental composition with strawberries, curling leaves and traditional red-and-gold Khokhloma details. It is digitized for an embroidery machine and prepared for a 200×200 mm hoop. This listing contains digital machine embroidery files, not a finished embroidered item, printed pattern or sewing project.

The circular composition works especially well as the central feature of a decorative pillow, tote bag, table runner, kitchen wall panel or fabric menu cover. A black or deep charcoal background produces the traditional Khokhloma contrast, while cream linen creates a lighter, contemporary interpretation of the folk ornament.

Required embroidery hoop

Hoop: 200×200 mm (8×8").

The 8×8-inch designation is the nominal hoop name used by embroidery-machine manufacturers. Always confirm that your machine supports a 200×200 mm embroidery field before transferring the file.

Fabric and stabilization

For a pillow, tote bag or lined wall panel, choose stable cotton twill, canvas, linen blend or medium-weight furnishing fabric. Use a medium-weight cut-away stabilizer underneath so that the curved ornamental elements remain supported after handling and washing. Embroider the motif on the cut fabric panel before assembling the finished item.

When stitching on velvet or another fabric with a raised surface, secure the stabilizer in the hoop, place the velvet without crushing the pile and add a lightweight water-soluble film on top. The topping keeps decorative stitches from sinking into the nap. Test temporary adhesive spray on a fabric remnant before applying it to the project.

For table runners or other projects where the reverse may be visible, add a lining after embroidery. This conceals the stabilizer and creates a cleaner finished back.

Choosing threads for a Khokhloma effect

Build the traditional palette around strawberry red, warm honey gold and leaf green on a black background. Rayon thread produces a softer feel and a polished, luminous sheen. Polyester thread is stronger and better suited to bags, table linens and other items that will be washed or handled frequently.

Metallic gold thread can be used for selected highlights rather than the entire ornament. Use a metallic embroidery needle, reduce the machine speed and test the combination of thread, needle and stabilizer before stitching the final fabric.

How to build a coordinated Khokhloma project

Use this round strawberry ornament as the central motif of a pillow or table runner. Add the separate Russian Folk Strawberries Khokhloma Border along the lower edge or at both ends of the runner.

For a narrower coordinating element, consider the Khokhloma Border Machine Embroidery Design in four sizes. More frames, borders, birds and folk ornaments are available in the Russian folklore machine embroidery collection.

Downloading and using the files

Select the file format supported by your embroidery machine, download the archive and extract the files before transferring the selected format to the machine. Test-stitch the design on fabric with the same stabilizer and thread planned for the finished project.

The embroidery file may not be sold, shared, traded or redistributed. Check the product licensing terms before producing finished embroidered items for sale.

Frequently asked questions

What hoop is required for this Khokhloma embroidery design?

The design is prepared for a 200×200 mm (8×8") embroidery hoop.

Is this a round ornament or a repeatable border?

This product is a standalone round strawberry ornament. The coordinating repeatable strawberry border is sold as a separate machine embroidery design.

What fabric color works best for Khokhloma embroidery?

Black and deep charcoal provide the strongest traditional contrast for red, gold and green threads. Cream, natural linen and dark green can be used for a more contemporary interpretation.

Should I use rayon or polyester embroidery thread?

Choose rayon for a softer, glossy decorative finish. Choose polyester for bags, table linens and frequently washed projects because it offers greater durability.

Can I resize the design for a smaller hoop?

Independent resizing may change the underlay, stitch density and construction of the design. Royal Present is responsible for the quality of the original files only and cannot guarantee a customer-modified version. If another size is required, use the professional design resizing service.
