Christmas Monogram X with Poinsettia Machine Embroidery Design is a digital uppercase letter X decorated with a red poinsettia, pine cones, berries and evergreen details. Use this individual letter to personalize a reusable Christmas gift bag or combine it with matching M, A and S letters to create a coordinated XMAS gift-bag set. The purchase includes one embroidery-ready letter X file, not the complete alphabet, a font, patch, finished bag or sewing pattern.

Design Size and Formats

Which Hoop Fits the Christmas Letter X?

Required and recommended hoop: 100x100 mm (3.94x3.94 inches), commonly called a 4x4-inch hoop.

The design measures 90.9 mm wide, leaving 9.1 mm (approximately 0.36 inch) of total horizontal clearance inside a true 100x100 mm embroidery field. It will not fit an 80x80 mm (3.15x3.15-inch) hoop. It also will not fit a 90x90 mm (3.54x3.54-inch) field because the design is 90.9 mm wide.

A larger 130x180 mm (5.12x7.09-inch), commonly called 5x7-inch, hoop may also be used when extra fabric space makes positioning a bag panel easier. However, the compact 100x100 mm hoop is sufficient and uses less stabilizer.

Which Embroidery Machines Support a 100x100 mm Hoop?

This Christmas letter X can be used with machines that provide a true embroidery field of at least 100x100 mm and read one of the supplied file formats.

  • Brother: PE535, PE545 and SE700 use a 100x100 mm (4x4-inch) field and read PES files.
  • Baby Lock: Verve has a 4x4-inch embroidery field and reads PES and DST files.
  • Janome: Memory Craft 100E and Memory Craft 1000 support the optional SQ10e 100x100 mm hoop and use JEF files.
  • Brother PE800: its standard embroidery field is 130x180 mm (5x7 inches), so the X design fits comfortably in the larger hoop. Read the Royal Present Brother PE800 embroidery machine review.

A hoop’s physical outside dimensions are not the same as its usable embroidery field. Check the field stated in the machine manual and select the correct PES, JEF, DST, EXP, HUS, VIP or VP3 file.

XMAS Reusable Gift Bag Project

Create four reusable Christmas gift bags and embroider one letter on each bag: X, M, A and S. Use the same fabric, thread palette and letter placement so the four bags form one coordinated XMAS display when arranged together.

  1. Prepare four oversized front panels from cotton, linen, canvas or a cotton-linen blend.
  2. Mark the horizontal and vertical center of each embroidery position.
  3. Embroider every letter before sewing the bags. This keeps seams, drawstrings and back layers away from the embroidery arm.
  4. Use the same distance from the upper edge on all four panels.
  5. After embroidery, trim the panels to their final measurements and assemble the bags.

Continue the word with the Christmas Monogram M machine embroidery design and the Christmas Monogram A with poinsettia. Add the matching S from the same collection to complete XMAS.

Stabilizer for Christmas Gift Bags

  • Stable cotton or linen: use one layer of medium-weight tear-away stabilizer.
  • Canvas: use medium tear-away; make a test stitch if the fabric has a coarse weave.
  • Thin or soft fabric: use lightweight cut-away stabilizer for permanent support.
  • Textured fabric: add a thin water-soluble film on top so the letter and small floral details remain visible.
  • Ready-made bag: hoop the stabilizer and float the bag front on top, keeping the back of the bag completely outside the stitching area.

How to Use Temporary Adhesive Spray

Temporary embroidery spray is helpful when the bag panel shifts against the stabilizer or when a ready-made bag cannot be hooped normally. Royal Present test embroidery has been successfully completed with Gunold KK 100 temporary adhesive spray. Other embroidery-grade products include Odif 505 and Sulky KK 2000.

  • Apply a light mist to the stabilizer, not directly to the project fabric.
  • Follow the spraying distance stated by the manufacturer.
  • Wait several seconds before placing the fabric on the stabilizer.
  • Spray inside a cardboard box or spray shield, away from the embroidery machine and computer.
  • Do not saturate the stabilizer. Excess adhesive may create residue and collect lint around the needle area.
  • Test the spray on a fabric scrap, especially when working with velvet, satin or pale fabric.
  • Check the expiration date because an old adhesive may leave stains.

Life Hacks for Clean Letter Placement

  • Print a full-size template and check the position before hooping.
  • Keep the letter at least 20–25 mm (0.79–0.98 inch) away from the future seam or drawstring channel.
  • Add temporary basting stitches around the embroidery area when floating a ready-made bag.
  • Use polyester embroidery thread for bags that will be washed or handled frequently.
  • Before starting, move through the design perimeter using the machine’s trace function to confirm that the presser foot will not hit a seam, cord or hoop edge.
  • Do not resize the DST, PES or JEF file merely to fit a smaller hoop. Resizing without recalculating stitches may change density and damage the small poinsettia details.

FAQ About the Christmas Monogram X

Will the Christmas letter X fit a 4x4 embroidery hoop?

Yes. The design measures 90.9x52.8 mm (3.58x2.08 inches) and fits a true 100x100 mm (4x4-inch) embroidery field.

Will this design fit a 90x90 mm hoop?

No. The letter is 90.9 mm wide, so it exceeds a 90 mm embroidery field by 0.9 mm. Use a 100x100 mm hoop or larger.

Why does my embroidery machine not display the X design?

First unzip the downloaded ZIP archive. Then transfer only the format supported by your machine. Also confirm that the usable field is at least 90.9x52.8 mm. An embroidery machine normally cannot read the ZIP folder itself.

Can I use temporary adhesive spray instead of hooping the bag?

The spray helps hold the bag against hooped stabilizer, but it does not replace the stabilizer. Apply a light mist to the backing, position the bag front and add a basting box when additional security is needed.

Should I embroider the gift bag before or after sewing it?

Embroidering the flat front panel before construction is the easiest and safest method. If the bag is already sewn, float its front on hooped stabilizer and keep the back layer, handles and drawstring away from the needle.

Is the complete word XMAS included?

No. This product contains only the decorated uppercase letter X. The matching M, A and S designs must be purchased separately.

Is this a physical monogram patch?

No. This is a downloadable digital machine embroidery file. No patch, finished gift bag, fabric, thread or physical product will be shipped.

Can finished gift bags made with this design be sold?

Yes. Finished physical items embroidered with the design may be sold. The digital embroidery file itself may not be copied, shared, traded, resold or redistributed.
