Christmas Monogram W with Poinsettia Machine Embroidery Design is a digital uppercase letter W decorated with a poinsettia flower, pine cones, berries and winter greenery. The design is intended for personalizing a Christmas tree skirt with a family surname initial. This product contains one embroidery-ready letter W file, not the complete alphabet, a font, patch, finished tree skirt or sewing pattern.

Design Size and Formats

Which Hoop Fits the Christmas Letter W?

Minimum hoop: 100x100 mm (3.94x3.94 inches), commonly called a 4x4-inch hoop.

Recommended hoop for easier placement: 130x180 mm (5.12x7.09 inches), commonly called a 5x7-inch hoop.

The design is 99.4 mm wide, leaving only 0.6 mm (approximately 0.02 inch) of total horizontal clearance in a 100x100 mm embroidery field. It fits a true 100x100 mm field, but it will not fit 80x80 mm (3.15x3.15 inches) or 90x90 mm (3.54x3.54 inches) hoops. Check the usable embroidery area specified by your machine rather than measuring the physical plastic frame.

How to Embroider the Letter W on a Felt Christmas Tree Skirt

  1. Mark the front tree-skirt panel and its seam allowances, but leave the fabric slightly oversized until the embroidery is finished.
  2. Position the W on the center front panel where it will remain visible after the skirt is placed around the tree stand.
  3. Hoop a light- or medium-weight tear-away stabilizer and secure the felt to it with temporary embroidery adhesive or basting stitches.
  4. For soft or slightly fuzzy felt, place a thin water-soluble film on top so the small poinsettia and letter details remain above the surface.
  5. Stitch a test on a felt scrap before embroidering the final panel. After embroidery, remove the stabilizer, cut the panel to its final shape and assemble the tree skirt.

Medium-weight felt approximately 2–3 mm thick provides enough structure for a tree skirt without becoming too difficult for a domestic embroidery machine. More information about felt, stabilizers and non-woven materials is available in Choosing Fabric for Machine Embroidery — Part 4.

Create a Coordinated Poinsettia Tree Skirt

Place the monogram W on the central front panel and add the Winter Poinsettia Border for Mega Hoop around the outer edge. The Poinsettia Bouquet Corner can be mirrored on both sides of the front opening to connect the central initial with the floral border.
