What Fabric Weight is Best for Napkins?
For table napkins featuring the Nutcracker and Marie at the Christmas Tree designs, we recommend fabric with a weight of 150-200 g/m² (4.5-5.9 oz/yd²). This weight is durable enough for frequent use and washing while maintaining a soft and elegant feel.
For fabric of this weight, a lightweight tear-away stabilizer, such as Gunold Tear Away or Sulky Tear-Easy (40-50 g/m² or 1.2-1.5 oz/yd²), is ideal. This stabilizer keeps the embroidery secure without adding bulk.
Hooping: Place the napkin and tear-away stabilizer in the hoop, making sure the fabric is taut but not stretched.
Water-Soluble Film: If the fabric is loose or textured, place a water-soluble film, such as Sulky Solvy or Madeira Avalon, on top of the fabric. This will prevent the stitches from sinking in and keep details sharp. If the fabric is dense, no film is needed.
