For which hoops is the Colored Deer Head free machine embroidery design suitable?
This design is suitable for hoops wide 7.09 inches (180 mm) and larger. This size makes it ideal for use on kitchen aprons, tote bags, or decorative textile items.
What fabric is best for kitchen aprons?
For kitchen aprons, it’s recommended to use medium-weight fabric—240–280 g/m² (7.08–8.26 oz/yd²). This weight provides enough durability to support embroidery while remaining comfortable to wear.
How to embroider on aprons?
Stabilizer selection:
- For sturdy fabrics, use a medium-weight tear-away stabilizer (80–100 g/m² or 2.36–2.95 oz/yd²), such as Gunold Tear Away.
- For lightweight fabrics, add a layer of water-soluble stabilizer on top, such as Avalon Plus.
Why use a water-soluble stabilizer like Avalon Plus on lightweight fabrics?
- Improves stitch quality: Lightweight fabrics, especially those with texture (like linen or cotton), can deform during embroidery. A water-soluble stabilizer adds a smooth layer on top, ensuring sharp and accurate stitches.
- Prevents stitch sinking: On lightweight or textured fabrics (e.g., terry cloth aprons), embroidery threads may sink into the material. Avalon Plus prevents this by creating a temporary smooth surface.
- Maintains fabric stability: It helps keep the fabric stable during stitching, especially when paired with a base stabilizer.
Once embroidery is complete, Avalon Plus can be easily removed with water, leaving the fabric clean and free from stabilizer residue.
Hooping:
- Secure the fabric and tear-away stabilizer in the hoop tightly.
- Make sure the stabilizer is evenly stretched without wrinkles.
Embroidery process:
- Load the "Colored Deer Head" design.
- Use a needle size 75/11 or 80/12, suitable for medium-weight fabrics.
