The Christmas letter R machine embroidery design features a decorative capital initial surrounded by a poinsettia, pine cones and winter greenery. Use this standalone monogram file to personalize a velvet Christmas stocking for a child, relative or holiday guest. The stocking shown in the image is a project example and is not included.
Embroider the letter R on the flat front section before sewing the stocking. Mark the center with the printed template and check the placement while the stocking pattern is lying flat. Keep the embroidery away from the seam allowance, cuff and patchwork joins. After stitching, add the lining, back section, hanging loop and cuff.
Whenever possible, choose stable, low-pile, non-stretch velvet. Do not hoop velvet directly because the hoop can crush the pile and leave permanent marks. Hoop a self-adhesive tear-away stabilizer, position the velvet on its sticky surface and secure the panel without stretching it.
For stretch velvet, use a medium-weight cut-away stabilizer with temporary adhesive instead. Place a thin water-soluble topping over the velvet so the letter edges, poinsettia petals and small winter details remain above the pile. The guide to Madeira Cotton Fix for difficult-to-hoop fabrics explains how self-adhesive stabilizer can be used on velvet.
After embroidery, remove the topping carefully without pulling the stitches. Keep the direction of the velvet pile consistent on all stocking pieces and avoid pressing the embroidered surface directly with a hot iron.
Make a different stocking for every family member by combining letter R with the Christmas monogram K and the Christmas monogram N. Use the same velvet, cuff fabric and thread palette to make the separate stockings look like one coordinated collection.
This letter R is a standalone embroidery motif for a stocking sewn from a pattern. If you want the stocking itself to be constructed in the embroidery hoop, see the separate ITH Christmas Stocking machine embroidery design in 4 sizes. Its smaller sizes can hold cutlery or sweets, while the larger versions can be used for small Christmas gifts.
This listing contains a digital machine embroidery file for the letter R. It does not include a finished stocking, stocking pattern, fabric or sewing materials. Test the design on a spare piece of the same velvet before embroidering the final panel.
