The Christmas letter P machine embroidery design combines a decorative initial with a poinsettia, pine cones and winter greenery. Use it to personalize linen bread bags, bread basket liners, table runners and handmade Christmas gifts.

Size, Hoop and Formats

Size: 98.8x81.8 mm (3.89x3.22 "), Stitches: 8066
Formats: .dst, .jef, .pec, .vip, .hus, .pes, .exp, .sew, .dat, xxx, vp3

Minimum hoop: 100x100 mm (4x4"). Because the design is 98.8 mm (3.89") wide, it leaves only 1.2 mm of total clearance inside a 100 mm field. For easier positioning, you can use a 100x170 mm (4x6.69") hoop and rotate the design if necessary.

How to Embroider the Letter P on Linen

Prewash and press the linen before embroidery because natural linen may shrink. Mark the center with a printed template, then hoop the fabric and stabilizer together without stretching the weave. Use 40-weight embroidery thread with a 75/11 needle for medium linen or an 80/12 needle for heavier, coarser linen.

If you are sewing a linen bread bag, embroider the flat front panel first. Keep the design away from seam allowances, the drawstring channel and the fold at the bottom. Assemble the bag only after the embroidery is finished.

How to Calculate Stabilizer Weight

A practical starting formula for stable linen is:

Fabric weight ÷ 3 = stabilizer weight

  • 150 g/m² linen ÷ 3 = 50 g/m² stabilizer (approximately 1.47 oz/yd²)
  • 180 g/m² linen ÷ 3 = 60 g/m² stabilizer (approximately 1.77 oz/yd²)
  • 210 g/m² linen ÷ 3 = 70 g/m² stabilizer (approximately 2.06 oz/yd²)

For firmly woven linen, use a medium-weight tear-away stabilizer. Choose a soft cut-away stabilizer when the linen is thin, loosely woven or the finished item will be washed frequently. If the layers shift during hooping, apply a light mist of temporary adhesive to the stabilizer, not directly to the linen. Read more about using temporary adhesive spray for machine embroidery.

Create a Coordinated Linen Bread Bag

Combine the monogram with the Ornate Bread machine embroidery design to make coordinating Christmas bread bags or basket liners.

This listing contains a digital machine embroidery file, not a finished linen item. Test the thread, needle and stabilizer combination on a piece of the same linen before embroidering the final project.
