How to Embroider the Letter H on a Stocking

For a patchwork stocking, embroider the monogram before assembling the cuff and keep the design clear of seam allowances. Press patchwork seams flat and use a medium-weight stabilizer to prevent the different fabrics from shifting.

For velvet or faux fur cuffs, hoop the stabilizer and float the fabric if direct hooping could leave marks. Add water-soluble topping over the pile so the letter, poinsettia and pine cone details remain crisp. A 75/11 embroidery needle and 40 wt thread are suitable for most medium-weight stocking fabrics.
