The Plum Branches Machine Embroidery Design Set includes two fruit compositions featuring deep purple plums, green leaves and natural brown branches. One composition is compact and vertical, while the second creates a fuller cluster of ripe plums and foliage.

The open, painterly stitch structure adds natural shading without turning the fruit into a heavy solid block. Use these plum embroidery designs on napkins, tablecloths, table runners, kitchen towels, aprons, tote bags and decorative home textiles. More botanical food motifs are available in our Fruits and Vegetables Machine Embroidery Designs collection.

This is a digital machine embroidery product. No finished item, fabric or embroidery thread will be shipped.

Which Embroidery Hoop Fits Each Plum Branch Size?

Design size Suitable embroidery hoop
55.0x77.5 mm (2.17x3.05") 80x80 mm (3x3")
90.0x85.0 mm (3.54x3.35") 100x100 mm (4x4")
81.0x113.5 mm (3.19x4.47") 100x170 mm (4x6.69")
127.5x135.0 mm (5.02x5.31") 130x180 mm (5x7")

Machines with a maximum 100x100 mm (4x4") embroidery field can stitch the 55.0x77.5 mm and 90.0x85.0 mm files. The other files require a larger embroidery field.

A machine such as the Brother PE800 with a 5x7 embroidery field can accommodate all four files included in the set. Always compare the selected file with the actual embroidery area supported by your machine.

Where to Embroider Plum Branches

  • linen or cotton napkins;
  • tablecloth corners and table runners;
  • kitchen and tea towels;
  • aprons and oven mitts;
  • bread bags and kitchen organizers;
  • placemats and fabric basket liners;
  • decorative pillows;
  • tote bags and reusable shopping bags;
  • kitchen curtains and botanical wall panels.

For a coordinated table linen set, place the fuller plum branch on a table runner or tablecloth and repeat the compact branch on individual napkins.

How to Embroider Plum Branches on Linen and Cotton

Prepare the Fabric

Prewash or steam-shrink linen and cotton before embroidery, especially when making napkins, tablecloths or towels that will be washed regularly. Press the fabric flat and mark the center of the design with a removable fabric marker.

For the best stitch definition, choose smooth woven cotton or linen weighing approximately 150–200 g/m². Very loose fabric may allow the lighter stitches in the leaves and fruit shading to sink between the fibers.

Choose the Stabilizer

For stable woven cotton or linen, use one layer of medium-weight tear-away stabilizer. Attach it evenly to the wrong side of the fabric with temporary embroidery adhesive if the fabric shifts or has a loose weave.

One suitable option for washable kitchen textiles is described in the OESD Ultra Clean & Tear Stabilizer Guide. Always test the stabilizer with the same fabric, thread and design size before stitching the finished item.

Needle, Thread and Machine Speed

  • use 40-weight embroidery polyester for frequently washed kitchen textiles;
  • use 40-weight rayon for decorative table linens with a softer shine;
  • use an Embroidery 75/11 needle for smooth cotton and medium-weight linen;
  • use an Embroidery 80/12 needle for heavy linen or canvas;
  • begin at approximately 600–700 stitches per minute;
  • use lightweight embroidery bobbin thread recommended for your machine.

Hoop the fabric firmly without stretching it. Overstretching woven fabric can cause puckering when the material is removed from the hoop. Support the weight of a large tablecloth or towel so it cannot pull against the embroidery carriage.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Hoop Size Do I Need for the Plum Branch Embroidery Designs?

Use an 80x80 mm (3x3") hoop for the 55.0x77.5 mm file, a 100x100 mm (4x4") hoop for the 90.0x85.0 mm file, a 100x170 mm (4x6.69") hoop for the 81.0x113.5 mm file and a 130x180 mm (5x7") hoop for the 127.5x135.0 mm file.

Can I Stitch the Plum Branch Designs in a 4x4 Hoop?

Yes, two files fit a 100x100 mm (4x4") embroidery field: 55.0x77.5 mm and 90.0x85.0 mm. The 81.0x113.5 mm and 127.5x135.0 mm files require larger hoops.

Which Embroidery Machines Can Stitch All Four Plum Branch Sizes?

Any machine with an actual embroidery field of at least 130x180 mm (5x7") can stitch all four files. Compatible examples include machines in the Brother 5x7 class, such as the Brother PE800. Check the maximum embroidery field in your machine manual before loading the largest file.

What Stabilizer Should I Use for Plum Embroidery on Linen?

Use medium-weight tear-away stabilizer on stable linen. For loosely woven linen, attach the stabilizer with temporary adhesive so the fabric and backing move as one layer. A clean-removing tear-away or a tested heat-away stabilizer is useful when the back of a napkin or tablecloth will remain visible.

How Do I Prevent Puckering Around the Embroidered Plums?

Prewash the fabric, stabilize the entire embroidery area and avoid stretching the material in the hoop. Use a sharp embroidery needle, check the upper thread tension and perform a test stitch before embroidering the finished item.

What Thread Colors Work Best for Plum Machine Embroidery?

Combine several violet, plum, lavender and deep blue shades for the fruit. Use two or more natural greens for the leaves and muted brown or burgundy for the branches. The included color chart can be used as a starting point, but the palette may be adjusted to coordinate with the project fabric.

Can I Embroider the Plum Branches on a Terry Kitchen Towel?

Yes. Use tear-away or cut-away stabilizer underneath the towel and water-soluble topping above the pile. The topping keeps the lighter fruit and leaf stitches from sinking into the terry loops.

Do I Need Water-Soluble Topping on Smooth Cotton?

No. Water-soluble topping is normally unnecessary on smooth woven cotton. Use it on terry cloth, waffle fabric, loose linen or other textured materials where the stitches may sink below the surface.

Can I Resize the Plum Branch Machine Embroidery Files?

Use one of the four professionally prepared sizes whenever possible. Resizing a stitch-format file can alter stitch density, stitch length, pull compensation and the alignment of the shaded fruit and leaves.

What Is Included in the Plum Branch Embroidery Download?

The download contains two plum branch compositions in four sizes and the machine formats listed in the product description. This is a digital embroidery file set. No physical product is shipped.
